Magnum - Bob and the Boys Live at the Penningtons - Bradford

Roll Back The Years!
Penningtons Bradford 05/03/02 ..
Bob Catley, Tony Clarkin and Mark Stanway are all that's left of the original line up but driven by former Thunder sticks man Harry James it was as if they had never been away. Bob Catley looked back where he belongs dressed in his faded denim Jacket and he has even grown his hair for the reunion. Unlike our old mate Mark Stanway who was obviously undecided at the hairdressers and so ended up with a bob up to his ears..
It must have been the time spent writing and working with his sons who are signed to UB 40's record label and doing rap. The thought of big Mark taking on Ali G is quite amusing..

Meanwhile back at the gig .. Bob Catley's familiar warm appreciation of the fans was interspersed with a none-stop live compilation of classic Magnum tunes that reminded us all of what a class act the Midlands based outfit were and still is.

If you think this is just another old fart band dragging it out for old time sake? Then you don't really know Magnum. They are too proud to bring the curtain of shame down on something they have all worked so hard to establish over the years.
The time away from each other as given them that spark and the edge they need to keep it very credible and entertaining. Obviously they are also out to promote a new album Breath Of Life (out on SPV08572902) .The Bailey's have seen many a Magnum gig but being in a band now ourselves (BAILEYS COMET) we can appreciate even more just what it takes to deliver the goods night after night.

MARY-ANNE & AARON`S FIRST LIVE GIG!!

Mark Stanway Penningtons in Bradford used to be called The Rock Palace and many moons ago we opened it up and brought the likes of Brian Robertson (Thin Lizzy) Bernie Marsden (Whitesnake) Little Angels and many more stars down with us for the opening night. Thankfully the venue and the people of Yorkshire have reunited to put one of the best classic rock venues on the circuit right back on the map. This was also an opportunity to meet some of our fans we haven't seen for a while.

Bob's manager and right arm Annie informed us that the band has entered the UK and German charts and that the tour has sold out really well.
If tonight's showing is anything to go by then lovers of good traditional rock are still out there and if only some promoters would put the right packages together the whole scene could have a major lift (..and they could earn some serious money).
Until then we remain the minority but back among friends and admirers of quality music.
Magnums return was indeed like a "Breath Of Life". As we head back down the M1 John (our other guitarist) still can't accept they didn't play "Just Like An Arrow" much worse than that Mick can't believe he left the Curry centre of the UK with out his Chicken Madras.

'Till the next time ..
